One Last Felicity Lesson

An American Girl
Social Studies Unit

While we are building momentum for the new school year to start, we made time for one last lesson on Colonial America with our dolls from the American Girl "Felicity" series.

Our social studies unit the last year has been Colonial America and the girls have loved reading about Felicity and Elizabeth from the 1700s. Savannah's Nonny created beautiful ball gowns that matched their dolls. They dressed in their period costumes as they learned about the values and issues of Colonial America.

The girls cooked, played games and learned the home-making arts of the day. They also attended lavish tea parties with their dolls. Today's tea party included dancing the minuet, just as Felicity and Elizabeth had done in one of the stories we read. Michelle, a gifted dance teacher, choreographed a minuet and the girls spent an hour tirelessly practicing it. Then we video taped their little performance. What fun to watch them dance the steps of Felicity's time!

Below are pictures from our lessons through out the school year.

One last cup of tea today, before we move on to a new social studies theme.
Now we are preparing to study "Kirsten" and the American Pioneers. We will also have a Little House on the Prairie Book Club this year as part of our language arts and social studies.
Little girls, dolls and books. It doesn't get any better than this!
